Meet our school

CEIP Virgen de la Cabeza/ Virgen de la Cabeza public School is composed of several preschool units (5 years), and primary education units (1st to 6th grade) to a whole of 600 students, ranging from 5 to 12 years old. It is a Bilingual School
covering Science and Arts & Crafts both in Spanish and English, besides regular education in Spanish and English in the English language. It also integrates a SE unit (Special Education Unit attending students with special needs), a Speech therapy
Unit, as well as a Psychology department.
It is located in a village in the outskirts of Granada, Churriana de la Vega, with a strong agricultural tradition which is being lost due to the rejuvenating of the population and Spanish economical crisis.

Experiences and competences with previous similar projects

SPAIN’s partner has previously experienced transnational cooperation between schools and has promoted the learning of languages and intercultural awareness through three different Comenius experiences, in which it played the role of the coordinator school twice. Furthermore, the village in which the school is settled has a deep and strong agricultural tradition but even though Natural Science, as part of the Spanish Curriculum, allows the students to study any of the biological and physical sciences, a legitimate knowledge and study of the agricultural tradition in Churriana de la Vega is virtually nonexistent. The aim of the school is to begin a tradition of agricultural research and awareness of old local jobs and how to convert them into future jobs, and to promote organic farming and organic land care practices extending it to all in the education community: teachers, education staff and pupils; and to also involve organizations outside school such as parents associations, local Agriculture associations, local authorities, the business sector and school partners from different countries with similar needs and expectations.
